  1. FIREFLIES was inspired by Asian fireflies that synchronize their flashes (Science News: Aug 31, 1991 pp. 136-137).

  3. ‚ÄúCycle Length‚Äù is the time between flashes. ‚ÄúDensity‚Äù is measured in fireflies per pixel. ‚ÄúFlash Length‚Äù is the fraction of the cycle length that the flash is visible.
